I don’t get it. Sure people go bonkers for FD’s and 90's supra’s, however the bulk of the import scene remains fwd. Meanwhile the 929's and J30's can be picked up for pocket change all day long. Why is the RWD Japanese executive class forsaken?

Well as far as the J30, it’s pig ugly. The other stuff seems too rare.
People want to own cars they lusted after.
That’s my guess.

Still think about the one I almost bought.

I own a Lexus IS300, and love it. I would also love an LS400 and/or LS460.
Or I would love a Toyota Chaser.

the J30 is one of the top 10 ugliest cars from 1990's

J30 was as expensive as a loaded Maxima, smaller inside than a Sentra, and nigh-on indiscernible from an Altima that cost half as much. Yes, the VQ30 was wonderful, but the Lexus GS was a far better car in the price range.
With that said, I’d love to find a clean 929.

They're rare as hell and have little community support.

You’re looking at the wrong people!

btw you’re back on Oppo. Let me know if you account isn’t working or if you’re still showing up gray.

Hey, you shut up. It’s a good thing those cars get overlooked. It’s bad enough that the FnF and Drift taxes destroyed the S13 and supra markets, we don’t need the same thing happening to the J30 as well!

I think im good. thx

I love me some jelly bean 929 action, but they’re hard to find and expensive to maintain.

Cressida, MR2, up-to-A60 Celica, AE86, 240s... I dunno. People like their RWD Japanese cars. They just don’t like
those
ones.

I love the 90's Japanese exec sedans. No clue why they don’t have more of a presence, but maybe that’s OK. It means the prices stay reasonable. I picked up my LS400 for $2600 which gave me room to spend money on it to keep it going for many more years. It’s hard to imagine ever selling it!

I seriously considered a J30 when I started looking for a car to replace my Fiero two years ago. Got laid off before I found a good one though, so it never happened.

Can confirm as former GS owner

I want a JZX100 Chaser Tourer V sooooo badly. They’re just perfect.

I love the 90s jellybean J30 and 929 but I grew up when those were new and appreciate the 90s jellybean styling, which many folks do not. The VIP style crowd is much more about the boxy (a.k.a. wannabe-Mercedes look) Japanese luxury sedans. 1st two gens of LS400 and OG M45.

I’ve always had a weird love for these.

It was like a plush Crown Vic. Or a very Japanese take on a Jaguar. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the transmission.

For me it’s a combination of a lack of aftermarket support and a personal prioritization of how many pedals the car has over which wheels are driven. Most of these cars were either not available with a manual or very few were sold with one.

I love them all.
I can go on forever about them.
I like j30's but hate the vg30 tho.

Huh, interesting. I thought it would be tighter. If it’s a plush Crown Vic, I’d go with Roadmaster.

It felt very P71 to me (obviously with a WAAAAAY nicer interior, and no shotgun rack to bang my elbow on). Surprisingly fast, kinda soft, but obviously competent. I enjoyed it.

My 85-year-old grandmother and (in one month) 90-year-old grandfather have a 1993“Burgundy Cherry Metallic” J30 in Florida. They store it in the summer when they are away and then drive it occasionally when they are doing their winter snowbird thing.
My grandmother is the one with the DL, but she has hinted at giving it up recently. Everyone in the family is asking about their 2014 Fusion. I want to know about the Infiniti.

There are lots of love for these, also I never knew the 929 was rwd.
It’s just in this class you can pick up a BMW car like this or a MERC for the same money.
I think a part of it is these cars in the US had fairly weak setups for enthusiasts. Non-turbo models, auto only, etc. Where you can get a BMW M5 or AMG E class. You can begin to import GOOD Chasers and cars like that now or soon. People will be into those.
